About us

We are a housing co-op and a collection of humans committed to social change, enabling access to land for more people, growing our food and medicine, sharing resources, deepening connection, and putting into practice what it is to live lightly and with thanks on this beautiful land, with all the beings here and with eachother.

In April 2023 Kettle co-operative became the guardians of the land we now live and work on. It was a long time in the making and for most of us the second land based housing co-op we’d set up and lived in (Heartwell and Landmatters being the previous).

We were lucky enough to have people believe in us, our vision and our history to lend us their money to buy the land at Oakwood, additionally within the first year of purchase we took a loan with Radical routes – A Network of Housing and Workers Co-ops Working for Radical Social Change, which connected us up with this amazing collective, which we are now members of.

Oakwood has a long history of being a Forest School site and as such has a woodland classroom, compost loos, a pizza oven, several campfire areas, two indoor classrooms (one with a kitchen), a large geometrical herb garden centring around a fire pit, a beautiful open sided roundhouse, and the beginnings of a covered outdoor kitchen!
We also currently have an onsite apothecary, a community food shop, shared vegetable gardens and a large polytunnel.

As well as living here, we really want to share the land with others, believing access to land and community is vital for human health on all levels.

Watch this space for more about Kettle and Oakwood over the coming months as we work on this new website.
